Phantom Blade Zero Launch Troubleshooting: Startup, Shaders and Frame Rate
Phantom Blade Zero is out, but some PC players may meet a startup error or a long shader compilation before reaching their first fight. This checklist follows the official FAQ as reproduced by the gaming press.

Let the first shader compilation finish
The first launch includes shader compilation. A long wait at this stage does not by itself mean the game has frozen. Keep the game in the foreground where possible: the FAQ says moving it to the background can lower CPU priority and prolong compilation.
If progress stops changing for an extended period or an error appears, record the message and move on to the update and file checks below.

Update the client, then verify the game files
Confirm that the game has finished updating, restart the launcher and try again. If it still will not start, use the platform’s file verification or repair feature.
On Steam, go to Library → right-click Phantom Blade Zero → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files. Other PC launchers provide their own verification or repair tools. If the launcher reports a missing runtime component, follow its repair prompt and check that your operating system and graphics card meet the requirements.
A stalled download may be disk work
A download dropping to a low speed can coincide with verification, unpacking or file replacement. Check the launcher’s status and disk activity before restarting the download.
The game requires an SSD. Updates can need temporary unpacking and replacement space beyond the download size, so follow the current launcher’s storage prompt rather than reserving only the patch’s download size.
Start with the recommended graphics preset
Apply the recommended graphics quality in the game’s system settings and save the changes. If frame rate remains unstable, try turning off ray tracing, then reduce resolution or the quality preset in stages.
Change only a few settings at a time so you can see what helps. Check for resource-heavy background programs and relevant system or graphics-driver updates. Results will depend on the hardware and the situation in which the slowdown occurs.
Check the selected audio and controller devices
If sound is missing or coming from the wrong place, check the output device selected in both Windows and the game. For a controller on PC, try a USB data cable to rule out Bluetooth connection issues and limitations affecting some advanced feedback features.
For DualSense, change the default playback device if you do not want audio routed through the controller. Disabling its audio device outright can affect related feedback features.
Give support a reproducible description
Include when and where the problem happens, the steps leading to it, any error screenshot and whether you can reproduce it. Record your CPU, GPU, memory, operating system, driver and game versions as well.
Check the PC requirements if hardware compatibility is still unclear. Once the game is running, the ten beginner tips cover the next steps.
